VMHA Junior Coaching Program
The Junior Coach Program is designed to:
- Help our U18 and U21 VMHA players achieve their NCCP Coach Level 1 or 2 certification.
- Provide opportunities for Junior Coaches to practice their coaching skills with a VMHA team during practices and games.
- Allow players to satisfy their Community Service Requirement for secondary school graduation.
- Create a pathway to be considered for a future coaching position with VMHA.
Phased Approach
We are taking a phased-in approach to developing new coaches:
- Step 1: On-Ice Helper (OIH): Open to U18 players, this is an entry-level role with a lower barrier of entry. OIHs gain valuable experience by helping teams during practices.
- Step 2: Junior Coach: After successfully completing a season as an OIH, players may progress to the Junior Coach program. Junior Coaches work more closely with teams, receive mentorship, and begin their NCCP certification journey.
