Team Staff Positons
The Head Coach is someone with hockey knowledge, who shares a passion for the game while creating a fun and positive environment. The Head Coach will provide their team with clear expectations, and will communicate well with the players and parents. They will have a positive attitude and keep all players safe, active and engaged during practices and games. They will provide their team with an environment where the kids will have fun, be confident, develop their hockey skills and ultimately be good, kind people.
Job Description
- Actively participate in the Rep selection process or "C" division balancing process
- Serve as an official spokesperson on behalf of the team
- Create and communicate early to players/parents the expectations, commitments, and the seasonal plan.
- Works closely with team staff which includes but not limited to the assistant Coach(s), team manager, and HCSP.
- Plan on-ice/off-ice team activities in consultation with the team staff
- Plan, implement and control pre-game preparation
- Prepare practice plans in consultation with the assistant coach(s)
- Coach the Team in all games and practices
- Establish rules/team identity and oversee the supervision of the players, provide feedback to players/parents on improvements and items of concern through-out the season.
- Participate in on the association coaches’ clinics, coach support, coach development sessions offered during the season.
Qualifications
- Love for the game of hockey, positive and organized.
- Interest in child/athlete development
- Ability to work with fellow coaching personnel
- Great communication skills
- Be a leader and available as to time requirements
- Be organized and have strong time management skills (i.e. Be on time)

Certification requirements of a Head Coach:
- Submit a Criminal Record Check
- Complete the Respect in Sport
- Complete the Concussion Awareness Toolkit
- Coaching Qualification- please see National Coaching Certification Program NCCP) team requirements and BC Hockey Coaching Clinics.
Please do not start any of the above certifications unless you have been directed to do so by the VMHA Registrar. Only persons who are rostered to a team will be eligible for reimbursement. Reimbursements are done at the end of the season once all post task requirements have been completed. Please submit your receipts for via the VMHA Expense Form. Deadline to submit receipts is March 31.

The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach, and will also communicate well with the players and parents. They will have a positive attitude and keep all players safe, active and engaged during practices and games. They will provide their team with an environment where the kids will have fun, be confident, develop their hockey skills and ultimately be good, kind people.
Job Description
- Assist with player evaluation and the player selection process
- Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting practices
- Assist with pre-game preparation
- Assist with the operation of the team during the game
- Assist with post game evaluation
- Assist with scouting and evaluation of opponents
- Assist with the supervision of players both on and off the ice
- Assist with the formulation of the overall game plan, as well as the game-to-game adjustments
- Submit a year-end evaluation report to the Head Coach containing observations on player performance, team performance and general recommendations on the program
- Reports to the team Head Coach

Ultimately, the manager is responsible for ensuring all the off-ice tasks are completed. This does not mean that the manager must do it all; he or she needs to make sure that things get done via delegation. This is a big job so set yourself up a posse. Every parent on your team must volunteer for something.
Job Description:
- Communication of the team schedule, ensuring TeamSnap is up to date and accurate.
- Reschedule/resolve any “conflict” games.
- Work with coaching staff to organize exhibition games/tournament participation.
- Liaise with VMHA Ref. Assignor to secure officials for all home games (U13 and under)
- Ensure payment of officials, score/time-keeper assigned for all home games, score/time-keepers for away games if needed.
- Communicate with opposing teams in regards to upcoming games; date, time, location, arena specifics, parking issues, etc.
- Coordinate team financial matters; collection and payment of tournament entry fees, etc.
- "A" teams only: Develop an operating budget and present to the team parents for approval. A team treasurer may be appointed to manage this aspect.
- Obtain additional equipment/supplies for the team, as needed

A certified Hockey Canada Safety Person (HCSP) is required to be in attendance at all team practices, games and sanctioned special events.
Job Description
- Ensures they have active smart phone access to medical information via ePact
- Ensures that the first aid kit/basic helmet repair tool kit is at all practices and games. Also ensures maintenance of first aid kit
- Ensures that Injury Reporting Log/Return to Play Form are completed and and uploaded through the VMHA site if an injury occurs.
- Manages injuries and refers players to qualified professionals.
- Advises parents regarding the Hockey Canada Insurance form
- Ensure that Return to Play Protocol is followed for all injured players.
- In conjunction with team coaches, conducts regular checks of players' equipment and is prepared for simple repairs

- Creation of a season budget in conjunction with team officials that includes tournaments, team building events, fundraising etc.
- Collection of team fees (if applicable)
- Determines team fundraising needs and develops a plan if necessary
