Board Member Positions
Vancouver Minor Hockey Association is governed by a dedicated board of directors who ensure the organization runs effectively. The board consists of both voting and non-voting positions, each with specific responsibilities to support our hockey community.
Board Members - Voting Positions
President +
The President provides leadership and direction to the Vancouver Minor Hockey Association. Responsibilities include:
- Serving as the official spokesperson for VMHA
- Chairing all board meetings and the Annual General Meeting
- Overseeing all operations and administration of the association
- Representing VMHA at district, provincial, and national meetings
- Ensuring compliance with BC Hockey and Hockey Canada regulations
- Developing strategic goals and initiatives for the association
- Building relationships with community partners and sponsors
The President works closely with all board members to ensure the association's mission and values are upheld in all activities.
VP1 +
The First Vice President supports the President and oversees specific operational areas. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as President in their absence
- Overseeing the recreational hockey program
- Managing division coordinators for recreational teams
- Addressing parent concerns and resolving disputes
- Assisting with policy development and implementation
- Participating in board meetings and decision-making
- Supporting special events and tournaments
This position requires strong leadership skills and a thorough understanding of hockey operations and administration.
VP2 +
The Second Vice President focuses on specific areas of association management. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the representative (rep) hockey program
- Managing tryouts and evaluations for rep teams
- Liaising with rep team coaches and managers
- Ensuring compliance with rep team policies
- Addressing concerns related to the rep program
- Supporting tournament participation for rep teams
- Working with development staff on advanced player development
This position requires experience with competitive hockey programs and strong organizational abilities.
VP3 +
The Third Vice President focuses on community engagement and player development. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing initiation and novice hockey programs (U7, U9)
- Coordinating player development initiatives
- Managing special programs such as female hockey initiatives
- Developing and implementing recruitment strategies
- Organizing community outreach activities
- Supporting initiatives to increase player retention
- Working with schools and community centers on hockey promotion
This position plays a crucial role in growing hockey participation and ensuring positive experiences for young players.
Coach Coordinator +
The Coach Coordinator manages all aspects of the coaching program within VMHA. Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting and selecting qualified coaches for all teams
- Organizing coaching certification clinics and professional development
- Evaluating coaching performance throughout the season
- Developing and implementing coaching standards and guidelines
- Providing mentorship and support to new coaches
- Addressing concerns related to coaching practices
- Working with Hockey Canada and BC Hockey on coaching initiatives
This position requires extensive coaching experience and knowledge of player development best practices.
Secretary +
The Secretary maintains official records and documentation for the association. Key responsibilities include:
- Recording and distributing minutes of all board meetings
- Maintaining the association's constitution, bylaws, and policies
- Managing official correspondence for the association
- Providing notice of meetings to board members
- Maintaining the association's archives and historical records
- Assisting with annual reporting requirements
- Supporting the President and board with administrative tasks

Treasurer +
The Treasurer oversees all financial aspects of the association. Responsibilities include:
- Managing the association's finances and banking
- Preparing annual budgets and financial reports
- Overseeing registration fees and fee collection
- Processing payments and reimbursements
- Ensuring compliance with financial regulations
- Coordinating annual financial reviews or audits
- Providing financial guidance for association decisions
This position requires financial expertise, accounting knowledge, and strong ethical standards for managing association funds.
Referee Assignor +
The Referee Assignor manages the scheduling and assignment of officials for all VMHA games. Key responsibilities include:
Overview:
This position involves coordinating with various stakeholders, including the Referee-in-Chief (RIC), team managers, and the ice allocator, to maintain the integrity and smooth operation of our association, ensuring that games are fair and officiated to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Certification & Assignment of Officials:
- Ensure officials maintain their certification each year, communicating recertification clinic dates and registration information
- Assign referees according to their grade and level, ensuring compliance with BC Hockey and Hockey Canada officiating standards, balancing assignments to provide fair opportunities for all officials
Coordination with Referee-in-Chief (RIC):
- Works closely with the RIC to ensure that all games are officiated according to the official rules and the policies of the association, BC Hockey, and Hockey Canada
- Assist in recruiting new officials and organizing referee clinics to train new referees, organizing development clinics for all officials throughout the season
- Ensure up to date contact lists are shared with the RIC and distributes communications from RIC to officials
Scheduling and Communication:
- Maintain communication with team managers and the ice allocator to schedule officials for exhibition and rescheduled games
- Ensure that all game assignments are balanced and that any issues with officials are addressed promptly
Tournament Coverage:
- Schedule referees for our tournament and ensure proper coverage during this event
- Be present during the tournament to manage any last-minute changes and ensure smooth operations
Assigning Platform (Spordle PLAY):
- Utilize Spordle PLAY to effectively manage referee assignments
- Ensure that all officials are familiar with the assigning platform and verify that their personal profiles and schedules are accurate and current
This position requires excellent organizational skills, the capability to collaborate effectively with our Referee-in-Chief (RIC), VP3 and Executive, a thorough understanding of officiating requirements, and the proficiency to manage a diverse team of officials.
Equipment Manager +
The Equipment Manager oversees all association equipment and team uniforms. Responsibilities include:
- Managing inventory of all association-owned equipment
- Purchasing new equipment as needed
- Coordinating jersey distribution and collection
- Ensuring teams have necessary practice and game equipment
- Arranging maintenance and repairs of equipment
- Managing goaltender equipment loan program
- Working with vendors on equipment and uniform orders
This position requires knowledge of hockey equipment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage equipment budgets effectively.
Fundraising Coordinator +
The Fundraising Coordinator develops and implements fundraising initiatives for the association. Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and coordinating association-wide fundraising events
- Managing sponsor relationships and sponsorship programs
- Providing guidance to teams on approved fundraising activities
- Tracking fundraising revenues and expenses
- Developing new fundraising opportunities
- Coordinating volunteer efforts for fundraising events
- Working with local businesses on partnership opportunities
This position requires creativity, strong networking skills, and the ability to motivate volunteers and community supporters.
Tournament Coordinator +
The Tournament Coordinator manages all aspects of VMHA-hosted tournaments. Responsibilities include:
- Planning and organizing association tournaments
- Managing tournament registrations and scheduling
- Coordinating tournament volunteers and committees
- Ensuring compliance with Hockey Canada tournament regulations
- Overseeing tournament budgets and finances
- Arranging trophies, awards, and team gifts
- Communicating with participating teams and officials
This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
Initiation Director +
The Initiation Director focuses on managing programs for our youngest players. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the U7 (Initiation) and U9 (Novice) programs
- Implementing Hockey Canada's Initiation Program guidelines
- Coordinating age-appropriate development activities
- Training and supporting coaches working with beginning players
- Ensuring positive first experiences in hockey
- Working with parents to understand development-focused approach
This position requires experience with early childhood development, patience, and a strong understanding of age-appropriate hockey skill development.
Non-Voting Positions
Division Manager +
Division Managers oversee specific age divisions within VMHA. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as the primary contact for teams within their division
- Assisting with team formation and balancing
- Supporting team managers with operational issues
- Communicating division-specific information to teams
- Addressing parent concerns at the division level
- Ensuring teams comply with association policies
- Reporting division activities to the appropriate Vice President
This position requires strong communication skills and a good understanding of hockey operations at the specific age level.
Registrar/Administrator +
The Registrar/Administrator manages all registration processes and administrative functions. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating player and team official registration
- Managing the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) system
- Processing roster changes and player movements
- Verifying player eligibility and documentation
- Maintaining accurate registration records
- Providing administrative support to the board
- Assisting with communication to association members
This position requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with hockey registration systems and requirements.
Ice Allocator +
The Ice Allocator manages all aspects of ice scheduling for the association. Key responsibilities include:
- Securing ice contracts with local facilities
- Creating and maintaining the master ice schedule
- Allocating practice and game ice to all teams
- Managing ice changes and cancellations
- Coordinating special ice requests for development programs
- Tracking ice usage and utilization
- Working with other associations on shared facilities
This position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex scheduling requirements.
Referee-in-Chief +
The Referee-in-Chief oversees the development and performance of all officials within VMHA. Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting and developing new officials
- Organizing referee clinics and training sessions
- Evaluating and mentoring officials
- Addressing concerns regarding officiating
- Interpreting and communicating rule changes
- Working with the Referee Assignor on scheduling needs
- Representing VMHA at district referee meetings
This position requires extensive officiating experience, knowledge of Hockey Canada rules, and strong leadership abilities to develop a quality officiating program.
